Quesadilla's by Juan Pablo Villalobos - I loved Down The Rabbit Hole, and I'm really looking forward to this tale of family life and politics in Mexico.
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon - The book everyone is talking about? Not only does it sound right up my alley the movie deal is done, all 7 books are written and it/she is the Next Big Thing. Who can resist really? I managed to get my hands on a first edition hardcover, now I just have to
The City & The City by China Mieville - This plot reminded me a lot of one of my favourite TV shows of recent years - Fringe. A tale of two universes, a murder is committed between the two and police from each side have to work together to solve.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs - Bit of a cheat really as I'm reading this right now, so far so good...
Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor - I've seen this series appear so many times on other Bloggers' Top Tens. Mythical creatures, everyday setting (I think?), sounds intriguing...
The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith/JK Rowling - I tried so hard not to succumb to the lure of a new JK Rowling, but the reviews from before the time the authors identity was revealed convinced me to give it a chance.
The Grey King by Susan Cooper - Need to keep reading this series (4th in The Dark Is Rising sequence). My Greenwitch review will be coming soon. I'm told Grey King and the final book are really really good. Well worth the effort.
ooh, EIGHT!! I can't believe I forgot number eight... Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch. I love his Gentlemen Bastards series, and this is the third instalment. Released next month I have it on pre-order, and I can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Dark is Rising series. The ending is epic. I don't know why they haven't got as much love as they deserve over the years as Arthurian legends are popular. I hope you have fun with them. Here's my TTT

I went to an Author talk with this author, and he said that Books as a pastime and the literary tradition in Mexico are not particularly strong... In addition his first book while critically well received was published quite small scale, and Quesadilla's seems to be the same. It's only just been published in English. This is one of the great things about blogging, you get to spread the word a little. Thanks for visiting!
